History
It was a passionate interest combined with great inventiveness and inspiration from American magazines that gave Karl Dahlman the idea for Europe’s first rotary lawnmower. In 1954 he founded Klippo in Malmö. He got the wheels from a pram factory, he made the upper part from a pressure tank, and the engine came from the Clinton Company in the USA. Together with some bits of piping and a few odds and ends, this became the first rotary lawnmower manufactured in Europe. Karl Dahlman was a meticulous man. The work was therefore governed by rigorous quality standards right from the beginning. The focus on quality is therefore as old as the company. Only the best was good enough back then, and the same is true today.
Our tradition lives on in our ambition to find and develop our own unique solutions – usually simple and often ingenious. This is also the heritage of Karl Dahlman, who had the ability to stimulate his staff to contribute ideas as well. During the first years the lawnmowers found their customers chiefly in and around Malmö. There were large gardens which were demanding when it came to mowing the grass. Gradually, professional users noticed the Klippo quality. Those in charge of parks, real estate and cemeteries became important customers for Klippo and helped to spread the perception of Klippo machines as simple, functional, stable and safe.
The good reputation spread over Sweden when it turned out that Klippo machines worked just as well on the salty, damp grass of the archipelago and the thinner, wind-swept grass under the midnight sun as they did on the lush, quick-growing grass in southern Sweden. Today the need for lawnmowers is much greater than in the 1950s. The vast majority of Klippo users today are private customers who use their machines in their own gardens and at their summer cottages. Professional users normally choose lawnmowers with anti-vibration handles, catalytic converters and extra-powerful engines. We proudly continue the tradition of Karl Dahlman. Quality, safety, and reliability are still the core values at Klippo. Every machine is supposed to satisfy our expectations and exceed yours.
